The trees of the Atlantic Slave Memorial will stand together, not as monuments of grief, but as a testament to strength, remembrance, and healing. They will grow, protect, and sustain—just as the memory of those who came before us must.
And it will not stand alone. Young Gambians are reaching across the Atlantic to their brothers and sisters in the United States—descendants of those taken—to build awareness around two of the most pressing issues of our time: racial and environmental justice. The legacy of slavery persists today, from systemic racism to climate-driven displacement. By growing this memorial, we unite the past with the future, Africa with its diaspora, and remembrance with action.
This vision will only become reality through collective action. Join us in planting the seeds of justice, ensuring the past is never forgotten, and growing a future filled with hope.
